Community Services

Community Services Programs Guidelines (unless otherwise stated within a program description)

1. All registered Delaware Tribal members are eligible to apply for assistance to any Tribal Program for which they qualify.
2. Non-tribal members are not eligible for services.
3. Only one request is allowed per year, per tribal member, with the exception of Elder Prescription, which may be applied for each month, and Burial Assistance.
4. If more than one family member is applying for assistance, an application for each tribal member must be submitted.
5. All payments are made to the vendor or service provider, when applicable.
6. All applications must include a copy of the bill, receipt or estimate of cost.
7. All programs are based on funding availability.
8. Include a short statement about situation for which assistance is requested.

COMMUNITY SERVICES PROGRAMS

Attention: As of FY2024, Only one (1) Community Service Application is allowed per tribal member, per year, with the exception of Elder Prescription, which can be applied for monthly, and Burial Assistance.

Burial Program:
Burial assistance for Delaware tribal members. The family may apply for up to $750. The funds may be applied to expenses as is most beneficial to the family (i.e., funeral services, meals, wake, grave marker etc.). Documentation must be provided, including death certificate. Payment will be made as designated by the immediate family.

Emergency Assistance:
Emergency assistance to Delaware tribal members. Funds are to be used for emergency situations. Funds are allocated up to $400 and will be disbursed as determined by the Community Service Committee on a case-by-case basis. This includes medical and emergency travel.

Elders Program, Prescription Medication Assistance:
Prescription medication assistance to Delaware elders age 55 and over for pharmacy and related cost. Funds may be disbursed to vendors or to Elders on a monthly basis not to exceed $75 per month.

Optical Assistance:
Provides assistance for optical services to Delaware Tribal Members. Funds may be used for services, including glasses, physician’s visit or related costs. Funds are allocated up to $200 and will be disbursed as determined by the Community Service Committee on a case-by-case basis.

Rental or Mortgage Assistance::
Provides emergency rental/mortgage assistance to Delaware Tribal Members on a one time basis per year. The amount of assistance that can be approved is limited to $400. Approval of application must be obtained prior to service payment. Payments are made to the vendor or provider of services. Eviction notice, lease agreement or mortgage statement must be submitted with the application. The Tribal Member’s name must be on the rental/lease contract or mortgage statement.

Dental Assistance:
Provides assistance for dental services up to $300. Services may include tooth repair, dental fillings, dentures. Routine dental exams and cleaning are not covered. Payment will be made to the vendor and not the tribal member, unless for reimbursement.

 

Trust Board Scholarship

Delaware Tribal Members are eligible for up to $3,200.00 in scholarship funding. Full-time students may apply for $400 per semester for up to eight semesters. Semesters do not have to be consecutive. Part-time students will receive $200 per semester up to 16 semesters. Application is for post-secondary education, in pursuit of their Associates, Bachelors, Master or Doctorate.

Fall scholarship applications will be accepted from July 1 through September 15.
Spring scholarship applications will be accepted from December 1 through February 15.

You can download the application and print it out to be mailed with the required documents. Applicants are responsible for submitting all required documentation; a checklist is supplied on the attached form. Completed applications can be hand-delivered to the tribal offices or mailed to:

Students must maintain a 2.7 GPA (grade point average) in the last semester attended (high school, college, etc.). Students must reapply each semester. Award is made directly to student to insure that it does not interfere with their financial aid package at the institution. Scholarships will not be awarded for the summer semester. Scholarships are subject to funding availability.

Trust Fund Vocational & Technical Education Scholarship

Enrolled members of the Delaware Tribe are eligible to apply for the Trust Fund Vocational & Technical Education Scholarship. This program provides financial assistance to post-secondary students to support participation in accredited vocational and technical education programs.

Award Structure
Eligible applicants may receive up to $400 in total scholarship funding. Awards are distributed based on enrollment status as follows:
• Up to 2-Year Program: $400 for the full program
• Up to 1-Year Program: $300 for the full program

Application Process (Vocational/Technical – One-Time Submission)
Applicants must be seeking post-secondary training. Individuals applying for vocational or technical programs may submit a one-time application to be considered for funding. Applicants must apply within 60 days of receiving their acceptance letter. The following is necessary documentation that must be provided: completed application, tribal enrollment card, driver’s license or state issued ID, acceptance letter, class schedule and enrollment verification for accredited vo-tech program.
Applicants are responsible for ensuring that all required documentation is included at the time of submission. Incomplete submissions will not be considered. A checklist is provided within the application to assist in completing all requirements.

Submission Instructions
Completed applications may be submitted by one of the following methods:

• Hand-delivered to the Tribal Offices
• Mailed with all required documentation to the designated Tribal mailing address listed on the application form
• Emailed to kmaynor@delawaretribe.org

Applicants are encouraged to retain copies of all submitted materials for their records.

Driver's Education Assistance

Eligibility Requirements:

• Must be a registered member of the Delaware Tribe of Indians. *A copy of the applicants Tribal Registration
Card and number MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH APPLICATION. (If card is not available, a replacement
may be obtained for the Delaware Tribe Registration Department).
• This Assistance may be used to help defray costs of attending driver’s education classes through an accredited
training facility for up to $200.
• One application per student per fiscal year may be funded.
• The student will be responsible for any costs incurred not covered by this assistance.
• Payment will be made directly to the training facility or by reimbursement to the applicant upon verification of
enrollment and cost, with an official receipt with the name of facility.
• The application will be reviewed at the next regularly scheduled monthly Education Committee meeting.
• Applications are approved on a case-by-case basis. Awards are based on the availability of funds.

Extracurricular Activity Assitance

School Sponsored, Extra Curricular Activity Assistance For students in 6th thru 12th grade

Eligibility Requirements:

• Must be a registered member of the Delaware Tribe of Indians. *A copy of the applicant’s Tribal Registration
Card and number MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH APPLICATION. (If card is not available, a replacement
may be obtained for the Delaware Tribe Registration Department).
• This Assistance is for students involved in school sponsored extra curricular programs (for items required, but not
provided by the school). Students may be reimbursed up to $100.00.
• One application per student per fiscal year may be funded.
• The application will be reviewed at the next regularly scheduled monthly Education Committee meeting.
• Applications are approved on a case-by-case basis. Awards are based on the availability of funds.
