Emergency Rental Assistance Program Funds Available

The Delaware Tribe Housing Program was recently awarded $735,300.57 from the U.S. Department of Treasury. The money is from the Emergency Rental Assistance (ERAP) program. Housing has developed policies and procedures for the disbursement of funds. The policies will be available with the application in order to apply for assistance.

Emergency rental assistance is available to eligible tribal member applicants residing anywhere in the United States of America. The Delaware Tribe of Indians’ reserves the right to make ERAP modifications based on current trends and funding availability subject to the requirements of section 501 of Division N of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021, Pub. L. No. 116-260.

The basic description of this program is designed to assist eligible participants with emergency rental assistance primarily during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This program provides assistance for eligible applicants in the form of a grant in an amount to cover up to three months of dwelling rent and/or utility payments.

The tribal member applicant is responsible for providing all necessary information and accurately completing the application as required. Rental assistance includes but is not limited to short-term lease or rental payments of a duration that generally does not exceed three months’ and up to three months utilities. The assistance grant may be used to pay for arrearages not to exceed the three-month maximum. The ERAP funds may be provided once every three months subject to funding availability. Applicants must re-apply for additional assistance.

Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements to participate. The head or spouse must be at least 18 years old at the time of application. The applicant must qualify as a low-income family whose income does not exceed 80% of the local area median income. Income limits are adjusted for family size and updated on a periodic basis. There is no minimum income required.
